Pacific Northwest Series

All paintings are acrylic on paper,
completed between fall 2002-winter 2003

This selection of work is from my experience as artist-in-residence at Centrum Center for the Arts in Port Townsend, Washington, on the coast of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. For these paintings I gathered sea and rainforest life---such as chitons, crab parts, and a bird's nest made of spider webs---and combined them in suggestively surreal arrangements. Until this series I'd not painted still lifes, so oddly enough it was an experimental format for me.
